Grounding – the secret to my energy crisis

Earlier this summer, I began seeing ads creep up on my Facebook account about grounding products. If you have not heard about grounding (aka earthing) beforehand, it is, in its basic form, connecting to the earth. I had heard about grounding/earthing beforehand, but I didn’t understand the “why” behind it and didn’t believe it was relevant or applicable to my life in a large enough way to warrant much attention. Sure, I love being outside with my feet on the ground. I will kick off my shoes or sandals with much delight, but I am not intentional or consistent about connecting with the earth.

A little backstory before I go into my grounding experience. I am a mother to three young boys. My husband and I made the decision to home-educate them once we were faced with a kindergarten decision for my oldest. My youngest was just a baby and earlier in the year my father had passed away. I began taking on some extra responsibilities with my mother’s estate and I continued to help her navigate various decisions of life. I could sense that I was beginning to feel more weighed down by the responsibilities of caring for the needs of others, and my energy was starting to bottom out. I routinely felt sluggish and would oftentimes take an afternoon nap while my youngest was napping. I was also sleeping 9 HOURS at night and waking up feeling just “ok” at best and “groggy” more regularly. So energy (or lack thereof) has been a big deal for me.

So I was looking at the grounding products, really curious as to how I would feel if I started using them. My husband and I watched “the Earthing Movie” which discusses how being connected to earth actually “grounds” your body – causing a whole host of amazing things like reducing your inflammation, thinning your blood, regulating hormones (cortisol being a big one), and helping with sleep quality. There are a lot of other benefits – but those were the ones that mattered most to me. Curiousity got the best of me and I had to take the plunge. So I bought a grounding “sheet” and when it arrived, we started using it immediately.

The first few nights were actually a little less restful for me. I was tossing and turning a bit to fall asleep those first few nights, and then I settled back into my normal rythym pretty easily after that. There was one night in particular when I woke up covered in sweat like I had been sick or something. Within a short while, I began to notice that I hadn’t needed an afternoon nap in a while. I also began noticing that I would wake up earlier than I usually would and with more alertness.

Today it is 5 months after I began sleeping on a grounding product. Since our initial purchase of a grounding sheet, I have switched to using Clint Ober’s sleeping mat under our fitted sheet. I did this because I heard the products he sells are less likely to lose conductivity over time and I liked that his products come with a “product tester”. I learned that the ground transmits through 100% cotton, so I can used whatever fitted sheet over the earthing products without fear of losing contact with the ground.

This is my victory – I now have sufficient energy for my day! What was lost has now been found, and I am so grateful to be able to share that with anyone who is low on energy and may not know why. Grounding is like drinking water – everyone needs it. Some people are massively dehydrated and will notice an instant difference while others may not “feel” a big difference, yet be benefiting nevertheless.
